OPP ticket two stunt drivers within one hour in Kingsville work zone

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) had a busy Tuesday morning in the county, and two drivers will try public transit for 30 days.

Traffic enforcement officers on motorcycles stopped the pair within one hour of each other in the construction zone on Highway 3 in Kingsville, ticketing both for stunt driving.

At around 7 a.m., a 28-year-old driver from North York was stopped after being clocked going 108 kilometres per hour in a 60 km/h work zone.

Just after 8 a.m., a 42-year-old Kingsville man was stopped going 122 km/h in the same work zone.

Both were cited for stunt driving with future court dates scheduled. Their licences have been suspended for 30 days, and their vehicles were impounded for 14 days.

"These speeds are unacceptable at any time, but especially dangerous in construction zones, where workers are out every day building a safer road for all of us," read a statement from the OPP. "These workers have families waiting for them at home."

Fines for speeding in construction zones are doubled when workers are present.
