Driver blows over the limit after blowing through red light

A 24-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing an impaired driving charge after he allegedly ran a red light in Chatham Monday evening.

Police said an officer spotted the vehicle travelling through the intersection of Grand Avenue East and St. Clair Street in Chatham shortly after 8 p.m. Monday and initiated a traffic stop.

The officer believed the man behind the wheel was under the influence of alcohol, so he was taken to police headquarters for some breath tests.

He was later charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.

Police said he was also issued some summons for Highway Traffic Act and insurance-related offences.

Man arrested a year after police find stolen vehicle

Chatham-Kent police have made an arrest in a stolen vehicle investigation that goes back almost seven years.

CK police said they got involved in the case in June 2023 when they came across an abandoned vehicle that had been stored in a garage on Coatsworth Avenue in Chatham.

Officers said they later confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen to LaSalle Police in September 2017 and investigators were also able to identify the man who had parked the vehicle in the garage.

Police obtained a warrant for his arrest and he finally turned himself in at police headquarters just after 11:30 a.m. Monday.

He was charged with possession of stolen property and was taken into custody pending a bail hearing before he was released by the court with conditions and a future court date.

CK police said they were called to a residence on Baldoon Road in Chatham shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday after a homeowner found a stranger their kitchen.

Police said the homeowner made the discovery after coming back inside from being on the front porch.

The man left the home "without incident" and police found him a short distance away.

The 19-year-old was arrested, charged with break-and-enter, and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Two arrests on outstanding warrants

Chatham-Kent police can cross another two names off of their wanted list after making a pair of arrests on Monday.

Police said they caught up with a 30-year-old Chatham-Kent woman on Grand Avenue East in Chatham just after 7 a.m. Monday who was wanted for violating her probation.

Officers said she was arrested and taken to police headquarters before she was released with conditions and a future court date.

In the second case, a 911 hangup call led police to a 41-year-old Wallaceburg man who was wanted for failing to attend court.

Officers said they found him just after 11:30 p.m. at a residence on Westcourt Boulevard in Wallaceburg.

Police said he was taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a future court date, facing charges of mischief, break and enter, and failing to attend court. Test
